We Bid a Fond Farewell

Helen "Bubbles" Ausman, a founding member of our fellowship, left for Florida with her son and daughter on Sunday, April 20th. Midway through her 80's, Helen said she was rather surprised to find herself starting a new life now. Although we will miss her tremendously, we wish her the very best as she embarks on her new adventure.

During the UFL's famous and time-honored 7 and a 1/2 minute Break between the Service and Talk Back, we presented Helen with a going-away gift: a beautifully framed collage (created by Betty Golding) of pictures of UFL members and feted her with one of the world's most delicious chocolate cakes (with chocolate frosting and strawberries dipped in chocolate) and inscribed: "Since the beginning ..." Everyone eagerly participated in enjoying the cake with her.

As Helen left with her son and daughter, we sent her off with song and bubbles! Do visit our website (uulongview.com) to view pictures of this happy/sad/delicious/bubbly event

And, of course, she wants to keep up with what's going on at the UFL, so drop her a line if you feel so inclined. Her new contact information is:

BOX 1105
NEWBERRY, FL 32669
and she's temporarily using her son, Mike's e-mail: mikeaus51@aol.com

Teamwork

The Buddha compared faith to a blind giant who meets up with a very sharp-eyed cripple, called wisdom. The blind giant, called faith, says to the sharp-eyed cripple, "I am very strong, but I can't see; you are very weak, but you have sharp eyes. Come and ride on my shoulders. Together we will go far." The Buddha never supported blind faith, but a balance between heart and mind, between wisdom and faith. The two together will go far. The saying that faith can move mountains unfortunately omits the fact that, being blind, faith doesn't know which mountain needs moving. That's where wisdom is essential, which means that a thorough understanding of the teaching (and every situation) is crucial. --Ayya Khema
