Workshop ... continued from Page 1

In preparation, participants will read Edward de Bono's book, Six Thinking Hats. At the workshop, we will practice using the different types of thinking that are required for successful problem solving. Jo ordered several copies of the book and they are in our Library.

If this piques your interest or if you have been waiting for just this type of opportunity to acquire some new "tools," talk to Jo or Sky about participating in the workshop.

Election-Year Resources from Faithful Democracy

UUA Social Justice News

The 2008 election provides a fantastic opportunity for Unitarian Universalists to mobilize our congregations and communities.

The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations is a leading member of Faithful Democracy, a coalition of national faith-based organizations dedicated to increasing electoral participation among people of faith and people for historically disenfranchised communities.

Faithful Democracy will provide theological grounding, legal guidance, and programmatic support to faith-based partners who will educate and engage their constituencies in civic participation during the 2008 election year. Look for information at www.faithfuldemocracy.org. The UUA also offers a variety of materials specific to UU congregations - available now!

In 2004, at least 300 UU congregations did something to support electoral participation. What will your congregation do in 2008?

Now is the time for all good souls. . .

. . . to get those Spring Conference registrations sent in !

The Southwestern District Spring Conference and Annual Meeting are set for April 25-27, hosted by First UU Church of Austin (Texas). The theme is "What the World Needs from Religious Liberals." Theme speakers will be David Bumbaugh, Professor of Ministry, Meadville-Lombard School of Theology, Chicago, and Natalie Fenimore, Masters Credentialed DRE, Fairfax, Va.

Twenty workshops are offered that further explore the theme, including a wide variety of subjects. Worship services include ingathering on Friday evening and convocation on Saturday morning, as well as Sunday services featuring special music with the wonderful FUUCA choir. The Annual Meeting offers delegates an opportunity to consider and vote on By-Law changes. Entertainment scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings promises to be both rewarding and fun.

Youth are invited to stay overnight on Saturday and enjoy a full program at the U-U Retreat Center near Kerrville (transportation and advisors supplied by First UU Austin). Extras included are an early-morning walk around Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin and / or yoga before events begin. There are plans for a carpool trip (Sunday afternoon) to Barsana Dham, North America's largest Hindu temple and compound, just south of Austin.

Complete details and registration forms are available at the First UU Austin website -- www.austinuu.org. Early registration closes on March 31, and cut-off for more affordable rooms at the selected hotel is April 10 at 4 pm.
