Announcements for Sunday, July 13th
Ruth:
We will be holding a Water Communion
in September. The
Water Communion, also sometimes called Water Ceremony, was first used at a
Unitarian Universalist worship service in the 1980s. Many UU congregations now
hold a Water Communion once a year, often at the end of summer.
Members bring to the service a small amount of water from a place that is special to them. (If you were not able to collect water from that special place, you can use ordinary tap water as a stand-in.) During the appointed time in the service, people one by one pour their water together into a large bowl. As the water is added, the person who brought it tells why this water is special to them. The combined water is symbolic of our shared faith coming from many different sources. Next Sunday's program, "The Unitarian Faith," will be presented by Marolen Mullinax. She will explore the question, "Can a church founded on individual freedom of belief still possess a common faith?" Come and ponder with her, and then during Talk Back, share your ideas. REMINDERS
Think GREEN.
If you like to donate to the Fellowship in the form of supplies, choose
environmentally friendly products. Clorox now makes "Green
Works" cleaning products. White Cloud Green
Earth toilet paper is available at Wal-Mart. Target has the
Method line of cleaners and soaps. Drug Emporium
sells some 7th Generation products. And Amanda
does a group order through Frontier that allows you to buy at a discount.
Think FAIR TRADE.
Our Fellowship is now serving fair trade coffee! That means we buy it from a
wholesaler who pays the small farmer a fair market price for organically grown
coffee beans. If you would like to donate to the coffee fund, just make sure
you indicate that in the memo line on your check.

Ruth:
Next week's program will feature Megan Dalby-Jones
presenting "How Can I Keep From
Singing?"
She will discuss how the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion
provides a starting point for religiously-inspired action.
One of the ways members and friends can
participate in the Fellowship is to be a lay leader. Training, scripts and
sources are provided. As part of the Worship Committee, you will share in
shaping the spiritual gift of community that our Fellowship offers. Currently
there are nine members on the committee. If we had three more members, we
could set up a rotating schedule that would require each lay leader to lead a
service once every three months. If you are looking for a way to participate
in the Fellowship that would not demand a huge time commitment, this is a
perfect opportunity for you.
See me at the Fellowship for more details or
contact me at: 903--562-1408 or
resemrau@yahoo.com.
Chip & Amanda:
We are committed to recycling! If you live where
there is no recycling available, bring your paper, cardboard, newspapers, tin
and aluminum cans to the Fellowship and put it all in the blue recycling bin
and we'll see that it doesn't go to waste!!

newspaper, magazines, junk mail, and any paper except those
used with food or for personal or household hygiene (i.e., kleenex, paper
towels, napkins and plates); clear plastic
water and soda bottles and milk containers; and metal cans.

Jo: Tina was involved in a
serious automobile accident Saturday in Dallas. She had gone to pick up her
niece, Avery, and they were hit by another car. Tina's truck flipped

Announcements for Sunday, June 22nd
Jo:
Reminder - Next Sunday is the last Sunday of the
month so we will be enjoying a delicious pot luck luncheon after Talk Back.
Rustle up those pots and pans, fire up the BBQ grill, and shop for the fixings
for your favorite dish!
Ellen Herbert had back surgery two weeks ago. I
visited with her for a few hours and could see that, although she is still in
a lot of pain, she is recuperating. Frank is able to be her full-time
caregiver because the class he was going to teach this summer was cancelled.
The Home Health nurse came by while I was there and was pleased to see that
Ellen was able to get up and get dressed and was moving about. I commented on
how well she was sitting and standing and Ellen said that is was all thanks to
a bunch of metal that was now holding her spine together! I am sure she would
enjoy a call or short visit.
Sky:
I have updated the UUFL Email & Phone List. I

Announcements for Sunday, June 15th
Sky:
This is a reminder. The last Sunday of each month
will be "Pot Luck Sunday." This month, Pot Luck Sunday will be on Sunday,
June 29th. Start thinking now of what you would like to eat so you can
buttonhole the appropriate people and tell them to bring your favorite
dishes. This Pot Luck Sunday will be to celebrate the passing of the torch as
the 2007-2008 Board heaves a sigh of relief and the 2008-2009 Board girds
their loins.
Betty:
The Christian Covenant Group will be meeting at
the Fellowship on Friday, June 20th at 7:00 PM. Everyone is welcome.

Ruth:
Next week's program will be "Six Thinking Hats"
presented by Liza Ely. This program will prove to be valuable for all members
of our Fellowship because what Liza will be talking about and demonstrating -
six different types or ways of thinking - will increase your ability to
problem-solve and is applicable to any situation.
Holly:
The Earth-Centered Spirituality Group will
continue to meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. However, we will
be meeting at a new location. Contact Holly for more details.

ANNOUNCEMENTS for SUNDAY, JUNE 1st
Jo:
The monthly Governing Board
meeting will be held on its regularly scheduled date (the second Sunday
of each month). It is an open meeting. All members and friends are invited
to attend. If there is an issue you would like the Board to take under
consideration, please contact Ruth Semrau (903-- 562- 1408 or
resemrau@yahoo.com) so she can put it
on the agenda. Note on your calendars: UUFL Board Meeting
Sunday, June 8th at 1:15 pm.
June is the end of our fiscal year. The outgoing
Board Members hand over their responsibilities to the incoming members. We
will celebrate this exchange with a Pot Luck
Luncheon on Sunday, June 29th following Talk
Back.
It has been brought to my attention that the
thermostat is being adjusted by several different people. It is our goal to
maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the time people are here on
Sunday. Please DO NOT CHANGE THE SETTINGS because this will
not allow the system to maintain an even temperature.
Ruth:
Next Sunday's program will feature one of our
favorite exercises. It is our Summer Reading
Club!
Enthusiastic readers are invited to participate by
bringing a book to recommend to the congregation. Since we seem to be such
avid readers, you can recommend as many books as you want, but you must abide
by the "Two minute Limit."
Tina:
Holly need people to help with bringing snacks,
making coffee, and cleaning up afterwards. If you enjoy having coffee and
snacks on Sundays when you attend, please consider helping make it happen.
You can choose a Sunday that is convenient for you and put your name on the
sign-up sheet in the lobby. If you have questions, contact Holly (l_ravenweed@yahoo.com
or 903-- 553- 0288).
**Special Announcement*
Megan Dalby-Jones will be coming to our Fellowship
to speak once a month on the second Sunday of each month from July through
December.

U U F L Announcements for
Sunday, May 25th
Jo:
We have received a very nice thank-you
note from Helen Ausman, one of our founding members, who recently
moved to Florida. You can read it in the newsletter (hard copy or on line) or
see the original on the bulletin board.
Volunteers Needed! There are
lots of different things that need to be done to keep our Fellowship clean,
comfortable, helpful, viable, and functioning. Some jobs require a small
amount of time on a regular basis, some are a one-time thing, some ask for a
monthly or quarterly commitment, and some are heavy duty. We could, of
course, hire people to do everything that needs to be done (assuming we had
the money to pay them) but we would lose important opportunities to weave the
bonds of friendship that come from working together for a common goal. Please
be thinking about how you would be able to be part of the tapestry of our
Fellowship.
The Board has agreed that we should have regular
Pot Luck Sundays in order to foster and build community
within our Fellowship. After discussion, it was decided to designate the
last Sunday of each month as Pot Luck Sunday. As it turns
out, this will provide a perfect opportunity to celebrate the "changing of the
guard" as the out-going Governing Board hands over the reins of leadership to
the in-coming Board.
Sky:
The June newsletter is now available. You can
pick up a copy in the lobby or go to our website (uulongview.com) and

as our speaker. Here is the blurb she sent about her talk:
"How Can I Keep From Singing"
This June, many Unitarian Universalist Congregations will participate in parades and celebrations commemorating the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion. Why? What is the religious motivation behind advocating for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered persons?

This Saturday a big event will take place at UUFL -- our first ever workshop with a student UU minister on planning and structuring worship services that are meaningful for dissenters and free-thinkers like us. This workshop is for everyone who has a stake in what happens on Sunday mornings at UUFL. That would be everyone, wouldn't it?
